We especially liked the six key parenting strategies and the 20 suggestions from mothers and fathers. I am happy to report that we found the book helpful. Those complications led my wife and me to wonder how useful Beating The Odds would be for us. And even though we feel that we are competent parents (our oldest son is starting a law career in Boston, the other is in school and working), we recognize that our baby boy will face a future that is more complicated and more dangerous than the one our older sons faced. After raising two boys to adulthood, my wife and I (who are African Americans) decided to have another child, a boy who is now 8 months old. I read this book with great and deeply personal interest.
